Members of Egan, Flanagan and Cohen, P.C. were proud to attend the Hampden County Bar Association’s Annual Judicial Dinner on April 15, 2025, at the Log Cabin in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The event brought together judges, attorneys, and legal professionals from across the region for an evening of collegiality and professional development.

This year’s dinner was particularly well-attended, providing valuable opportunities for networking among members of the bench and bar. Representatives from our firm included Managing Partner Michael G. McDonough; Katherine A. Day, Chair of our Corporate Group; Litigation Attorneys Thomas E. Day, Paul M. Bromwich, and the Honorable Edward J. McDonough Jr. (Ret.) who joined the firm after his February retirement from the bench; and Michael J. Capozza from our Estate Planning and Administration practice.

The event included the presentation of judicial robes to newly appointed members of the judiciary, the presentation of the Kent B. Smith Award to Attorney Katherine Murdock, and the presentation of the William T. Walsh Longevity Award posthumously to Attorney Thomas A. Kenefick III, who sadly passed in late 2024 after decades of faithful service to clients throughout the community. Accepting the award on his behalf was his son and notable area attorney, Tyler Kenefick, Esq., who provided a heartfelt and inspiring message to the bench and bar.

A highlight of the event was a keynote address delivered by Justice Serge Georges Jr. of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Justice Georges spoke passionately about the importance of mental health awareness and fostering a sense of community within the legal profession. His remarks resonated deeply with attendees, addressing critical issues that affect legal professionals at all stages of their careers.

Justice Georges’ message aligns closely with our firm’s ongoing commitment to supporting mental health initiatives within the legal community and broader Springfield area. Egan, Flanagan and Cohen has proudly sponsored several community programs focused on mental health awareness and support in recent years.

Justice Georges delivered the key note address.

“Justice Georges’ address reinforced the importance of taking care of ourselves and each other,” noted Michael G. McDonough, Managing Partner. “As legal professionals, we face unique pressures and challenges. Building a supportive community is essential to ensuring we can continue to provide the highest level of service to our clients while maintaining our own wellbeing.”

The Annual Judicial Dinner continues to be an important tradition for the Hampden County legal community, strengthening relationships between practitioners and the judiciary while addressing topics of significance to the profession.

“We are frequently arguing before the bench and sparring with opposing counsel in court,” noted Tom Day, a partner and litigation attorney at Egan, Flanagan and Cohen. “This event is a great way for us to come together and remain grounded as professionals and contributors in our beloved Western Massachusetts community.”

Attorneys Tom and Kate Day were among EFC’s attendees at the Annual Judicial Dinner.

Second year litigator Paul Bromwich attended the event for the first time. “I appreciated the opportunity to speak with other lawyers and practitioners from the area, and to see the judges in a professional setting as individuals.” He added, “I can see why this event is important for our bar.”
