Egan, Flanagan & Cohen is pleased to announce that in 2018 it elevated two of its attorneys, Lauren F. Olanoff and Michael G. McDonough, to partner.
As partners, Olanoff and McDonough will continue handling complex civil litigation cases involving business litigation, contract disputes, medical malpractice, and other areas of tort and contract law.
“We are thrilled to welcome as partners these two accomplished attorneys,” said Attorney Maurice Cahillane, managing partner of Egan, Flanagan & Cohen. “Lauren and Michael each have a proven track record of taking cases to trial and winning,” added Attorney Jack Egan, head of the firm’s Litigation Department. Egan added, “Both Lauren and Michael grew up in Western Massachusetts, and, after receiving top-notch educations, came back to settle in the Springfield area. They are uniquely qualified attorneys because they understand the local landscape here, and they represent our local clients at the highest level. We are proud to have them as partners.”
Attorney Olanoff was officially named partner in May of 2018. She began her legal career as a law clerk, and later an associate with now Superior Court Judge John S. Ferrara, who was then a well-established criminal and civil trial attorney in Springfield. When Ferrara joined the Superior Court in 2011, Olanoff opened her own firm in Springfield where she continued to try criminal and civil cases across Western Massachusetts.

In 2013, Olanoff was invited to join Egan, Flanagan & Cohen, adding to the firm’s deep bench of skilled litigators and trial attorneys. She has been a success at the firm since the day she joined, having made a name for herself by representing several local business entities in the greater Springfield community in high-profile contract and business matters. She continues to litigate and try cases, large and small, in a wide variety of areas, including business disputes, personal injury and consumer protection.
“I am honored to be named partner at this firm. I look forward to continuing in Egan, Flanagan & Cohen’s long history of seeking and obtaining justice for its clients,” Olanoff said.
Olanoff grew up in West Springfield. She graduated from West Springfield High School and holds a J.D. from Tulane University, in New Orleans. She obtained an undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. She currently resides in Ludlow with her husband and their two children.
Attorney Michael McDonough grew up in Longmeadow. He graduated from Longmeadow High School, where he was class president and captain of an undefeated football team. He completed his undergraduate studies at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and he obtained a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, N.J.

“This is truly an honor,” said McDonough, having been named a partner in October of 2018. “I look forward to being a part of Egan, Flanagan & Cohen’s long and broad history of helping clients throughout the community.”
McDonough began his legal career as a trial lawyer in the U.S. Army JAG Corps, focusing on litigation at Army assignments including West Point, N.Y., Korea, Japan, and Washington, D.C. In 2016, he left the Army and joined Egan, Flanagan & Cohen. McDonough also serves as a Major in the U.S. Army Reserve, continuing the line of service established by firm attorneys dating back to the firm’s founder, James F. Egan, who served in the Navy in World War I.
After moving back to Longmeadow and joining Egan, Flanagan & Cohen, McDonough’s civil practice has excelled in recent years, resulting in several victories and positive outcomes on behalf of his clients. He practices in employment law on behalf of both employers and employees, as well as medical malpractice, wrongful death, contract litigation, housing court and criminal defense.
Michael is a fourth generation Massachusetts trial lawyer. His father, Edward J. McDonough Jr., is a former partner at Egan, Flanagan & Cohen, and currently serves as an Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Appeals Court. His grandfather, Edward J. McDonough, had a long and distinguished career in civil litigation and with the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office. Michael’s great-grandfather, Daniel P. Callahan, was a prominent trial attorney in Worcester.
Specializing in a variety of civil litigation areas, Egan, Flanagan & Cohen also boasts a full probate and estate department, as well as criminal, environmental and real estate practice groups. The firm has practitioners who are competent in every area of the law and who are licensed in states including Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Florida, and Texas.
The addition of Olanoff and McDonough as partners will help to sustain the growth and ability of Egan, Flanagan & Cohen to help clients achieve their legal goals far into the future.
